A Claxton Bay business owner was targeted in a violent extortion attempt that began with threatening WhatsApp messages demanding TT$100,000. The unknown sender threatened to harm the victim's children and prevent his business from operating if the demand was not met. Approximately thirty minutes after the messages were sent, gunmen opened fire on the victim's residence. Police responding to the scene discovered four spent 9mm shells on the roadway. Investigations are ongoing into the digital threats and the subsequent shooting.
