A 39-year-old man was detained by a joint police and military patrol on Saturday night after he was found in possession of a revolver and six rounds of ammunition. The suspect, who was carrying a white sling bag in a parking lot on Fourth Avenue, told officers the weapon was for self-defense and the protection of his family. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Arouca Police Station.
