A taxi driver operating a black Honda Vezel was shot after transporting a male and female passenger from Mt. Hope to Penal. Upon reaching a secluded area on Katwaroo Trace, the male passenger produced a firearm and announced a robbery, forcing the driver to exit the vehicle. A physical struggle ensued between the victim and the male suspect, during which the victim heard several loud explosions and sustained a gunshot wound to his lower back. Both suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim to be transported to the Siparia Health Facility and later the San Fernando General Hospital. Crime scene investigators recovered three 9mm spent shells from the roadway.
